I felt just like a mom dropping off her first child for kindergarten…but I didn’t cry. Are you impressed?
The kids were so excited this morning. I really couldn’t tell any nerves on their part. I think it helps that we have spent several days hanging out after school, going to the basketball game, softball game, etc. It’s allowed them to meet some of the kids and hang out.
Kids at the school have been so nice. Of course Noah’s class has been hearing about and praying for Wendemagegn and Beza for the last several months. That news has filtered down to younger siblings too, so a lot of kids knew about their arrival. They’re a little bit like rock stars 🙂
I stayed for the morning assembly with announcements and then walked Beza to her class. I stayed for just a few minutes. She was all smiles when I left. I gave Ms. V my cell phone number just in case, but never got a call.
When I picked them up I got great reports from both teachers. Ms. V was pleasantly surprised at Beza’s English (and the fact that she knew contractions) and how quickly she picked stuff up.
Once we got in the van Beza said “Very, very nice mom.” (That is the ultimate compliment and really, you have to know the accent to get the full effect.) Maybe I can get it on video sometime.
Wendemagegn told me “Very funny (I think he meant fun) mom. I like LONG day, not short.”
Tomorrow Noah and Wendemagegn’s class is going to the zoo which should be fun.
