One of the favorite parts of my job is getting to meet other people who are passionate about orphans and adoption. Because I could pretty much go on and on and on about orphans, justice, trafficking, adoption, etc. People’s eyes can start to glaze over. Really. So a lot of times I pull up short.
But when I’m some place like Summit, or having dinner w/ a bunch of other adoptive moms you should see it! Last month while I was in Colorado I had the opportunity to meet up with 3 awesome previously-only-online friends who are just as passionate about orphans as I am. Brandi, Angel & Wendi and I yakked late into the night about everything from adoption to trafficking to Africa and back around again, never missing a beat.
That’s just one of the reasons why I’m super excited about attending the 2010 Together for Adoption Conference in Austin, Tx (Oct. 1-2).
This year’s theme is “Providing gospel-centered resources to mobilize the church for global orphan care.” There is nothing that thrills me more than seeing individuals and especially churches heed the call of the gospel to care for the least of these.
So who is it for?
Basically anyone who has a heart for orphans – you don’t have to be an adoptive parent, or even in the process of adoption. If you want to know how to get involved in the helping orphans around the world, then be there! There’s over 50 breakout sessions (including one by World Orphans) and even a pre-workshop with Dr. Karyn Purvis (contemplating going to that as well).
A HUGE bonus is that I’ll get to meet Esther Havens in person, an absolutely amazing humanitarian photographer who’s leading a breakout session on the topic. She has an awesome heart and a unique perspective on the topic and I’m excited to meet her in person, having only talked on the phone and tweeted back and forth.
So who’s in? If you’re going to be there let me know – I’d love to meet you!
