The two weeks away was a great time to recharge my batteries, dream and plan.
Two things happened while I was away that are influencing where I go from here.
First, I met with a literary agent about the possibility of getting “Adopt Without Debt” picked up by a traditional publisher. It was an encouraging meeting and I am beginning to rework the book and double the content to help it’s marketability. The other instruction she game me was “build your platform.”
That’s basically code for “networking” – get my name out there, make connections, become an expert in my field, etc. Having a platform is basically a requirement for author’s these days.
As it so happened I had just purchased Michael Hyatt’s new book “Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World“. I devoured it – and ended up with a giant To-Do list – the second thing.
As a result I’ve made some changes to my online presence, including this blog.
The biggest one is that my book website and my current website are merging. You may have already noticed some changes to my navigation. All the blog posts from AdoptWithoutDebt.com have been merged into this blog and within the next couple days the URL will redirect here.
My blog focus is also going to narrow a bit. I’ve always had my hands in lots of different hobbies/activities/arenas and so my blog has become a bit scattered as of late.
From here on out my blog will focus on four main themes:
- affording adoption
- adoptive family life
- living debt-free & giving generously
- social justice
It’ll be less a family journal and more of a resource for others. Doesn’t mean I won’t post the occassional family picture but I want it to be more about you and less about me. I’m also going to blog more regularly. You can expect a new post every Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
Can you do two things for me so that I can do my job better?
I’m excited about some of the ideas I have on the horizon, but I’d love to hear from you.
What would you like to see me write about? What resources can I make available to help you?
