Hi, my name is Julie and I have OCD issues…

02.13.2014 by juliegumm@yahoo.com //

Am I the only one who has enough OCD issues that this drives them insane?

dishwasher

And no, I’m not talking about the dog. Let him lick the dirty dishes to his heart’s content.

I am talking about the plates. The red plates.

It’s after dinner. Each child is asked to put their dishes in the empty dishwasher. The first plate goes in. I’m not sure which was the first plate but, for the love of all that is holy, why is it NOT in the first slot? Why is it in the 3rd or 5th?

Then child #2 comes along. Yes, slot #1 would have been ideal, but they couldn’t even put it next to the other red plate???!?

Yes, I realize I need therapy.

I should be happy the dishes went in the dishwasher at all. I did hold my tongue. I took a deep breath. Took a picture so I could rant online. Rearranged the plates and went on with my night.

“Sol the Super Hairo!” Book Review & Giveaway

02.12.2014 by juliegumm@yahoo.com //

I love big, black natural hair, especially tight curls.

To be honest I probably didn’t pay a ton of attention to black hairstyles before our adoption, but now whenever I see someone with BIG hair that looks awesome I get excited. Usually it’s adult women who are rockin’ these cool ‘dos.

If Beza is with me I’ll point it out. I do this for two reasons. First, I honestly do think it’s cool. Second, I want her to see women that are comfortable embracing the natural beauty of their hair.

LeelaJames macygray Solange

Artist, author and natural hair ambassador, Ishé Hollins has written a cute children’s book called “Sol the Super Hairo!” – the story of a young girl who is proud of her hair and sees it’s beauty and strength. It’s a cute book for girls ages 3-7.

Keep those Christmas wish lists straight with Tallwish.com

12.05.2013 by juliegumm@yahoo.com //

Easy Organizer for Tracking Wish Lists & Gift PurchasesWith 6 siblings, 4 parents and 15 nieces and nephews – gift buying can take a lot to keep straight. Getting our kids to make a list, remember who you told about what gift ideas…kind of a nightmare.

Until last year when I discovered Tallwish.com!

I set up a Tallwish group for our family with each family member having their own login and password.

Each person goes in and adds stuff to their wish list. You can provide links for online shopping and rate your items on a scale of 1 (MUST HAVE) to 4 (thinking about).

Tallwish-add

You can also add “secret suggestions” to people’s lists. For example, I’ll often stumble across something I think would be great for one of the kids. I can go to their wish list and add it. When they are logged in and looking at their list, they don’t see it. But EVERYONE else does.

Tallwish-secret

When you decided to buy something for someone, you simple select “I will get.” Then, when anyone else is looking at that wish list, they will see, “Taken” next to the item. But the owner of the wish list, sees nothing. No more duplicate gifts.

TallWish-Taken

I love that throughout the year when the kids say “For my birthday I want….” I can just tell them to add it to their Tallwish. A couple of months before their birthdays they’ll also log in and make sure everything is current.

It’s made everything so much easier for us.

Do you have any apps or websites you use to track gift buying and wish lists?
