Prayer for Travel Buddies

12.12.2008 by juliegumm@yahoo.com //

UPDATED: Praise the Lord – Jen is cleared for travel. The doc gave her some beta blockers and sent her on her way!!! Our God is awesome!

I am asking for some serious prayer for our beloved friend and travel buddy Jen. They are scheduled to leave with us for Addis on Sunday morning. It has been amazing to watch God work out the timing of our journeys so that we can experience this together. The things that have happened in both of our journeys to bring us to this point together can be nothing else than God’s work. We all feel confident that God has us embarking on this journey together not just for our fun and enjoyment but for a much larger purpose that we will only know when we get there. So I can assume that today’s developments are surely an attack from Satan to try to prevent what God is doing.

About an hour ago we got a call from Dustin. Jen was at her sister’s when all her extremities started turning blue. It started in hands and feet and kept spreading up arms and legs. They called the paramedics. Her blood pressure is extremely low and they are taking her to the hospital.

Please pray that they will discover QUICKLY what is wrong and get her on the way to healing! I know that she does not want to delay her trip to get her son or worse, miss out. We serve a powerful and mighty God who can work miracles and we are asking him to do one today.

Updated 7:32 – They did an EKG. Still waiting to talk to the cardiologist. While they were waiting they did a dye injection to check for blood clots in the lungs. That came back clear (praise God). Her heart rate is still really elevated. She snuck on her phone to tweet (I love that girl 🙂 and said she may need beta blockers for wacky pulse rate. Keep praying!!!

Saturday at the Ballpark

12.06.2008 by juliegumm@yahoo.com //

We have historically NOT been one of those extra-curricular families. When the kids were really little it seemed like a waste of money. When he was about 3 Noah started asking to play tball. I think mostly because his friends were playing. We said he could, when he was 4. When he passed that magical milestone we signed him up for tball with some friends of his. Let’s just say that he spent most of his time in the field staring at the clouds.

We tried again with soccer at age 5 – again with friends from church. He wasn’t that great at listening to the coaches and half the time didn’t want to play during the games. He also tended to get pretty upset when the other team scored.

So we called a timeout on extra curricular sports for a time.

As Natalie came along she really didn’t ask as much. I did enroll her in a gymnastics class at the gym and she is now doing ballet in an after school program (taught by one of the moms). She’s more of a flitter though. Six weeks of gymnastics was enough. She’s been in ballet for about 9 weeks and she claims she’s done. (Two practices and a performance to go.)

Just in the last year Noah has been asking about sports again and we decided to give it a try. His attention span is much better and after attending several Diamondback games this last year he’s taken an interest in baseball.

One of our friends is the coach and Mark and another guy from church are helping. There are 4 kids on the team from church so it’s been a fun time. I think we’ve played about 6 games so far and we are 0-5-1.

Every night at bedtime Noah prays, “God, please let us win just one game before the season is over.” I thought for sure we were going to pull a win out of the hat last week but it ended up a tie.

It’s pretty comical to watch the kids. They have yet to get a lot of the basics down. Noah was on third today when Dylan hit a pop. He ran home as fast as he could but when the infielder caught it he had to run back to 3rd. Luckily they were just as confused so he made it back to 3rd and evenutally back to home again. Whew!

I have to say I’m really proud of the sportsmanship that all the boys are displaying. They cheer each other on and don’t seem to get dismayed when the other team is scoring more runs than us.
