Admit it, you did a little gasp didn’t you?
I certainly did when my friend Jody told me she’d started a new club called Adoptive Mothers Against Adoption. Of course I knew Jody’s heart, so I knew there had to be more to the story.
I think most adoptive mothers would admit that we wish adoption didn’t need to be. No, it doesn’t mean we don’t love our kids, or that we would change one single thing about our adoption.
It just means that we wish there were no orphans. That mothers didn’t die in childbirth because of no healthcare. That every household had as many $8 malaria nets as they needed. That everyone had access to the medicine they need and that they could afford it.
True to their nature, The Adventure Project (remember World Water Day, the coal stoves, the irrigation project) is tackling healthcare issues in a unique way.
This quarter they have a HUGE goal of raising $170,000 (I said HUGE right) for Living Goods, a unique sustainable answer to family healthcare issues in Uganda.
LG is the Avon of healthcare. They train and equip women in the community to become Community Health Promoters. The buy medicines in bulk so that they become more affordable for families. Each Community Health Promoter travels her community with her bag of supplies (things like mosquito nets, birthing kits, water filtration systems, medicine, etc) and services 700 people. Not only is she helping others, but she’s earning a living for her family.
$42 gives a woman a new start as a Community Health Promoter. It pays for her first bag of supplies, plus her uniform. $120 trains her.
My faithful blog readers helped me exceed my goal for TAP on World Water Day and I LOVE you for it.
This time I’m setting my sites even higher.
I want to raise $5,000. And to give you a little incentive, I’m giving away THIS….
This is my iPad.
It is a 1st generation 16 GB Wi-Fi model.
It is in pristine condition – had a screen protector on it since day one and been in some kind of case always. It has a Zagg leather protector on the back.
It was bought in September of last year so it is still under warranty for a little over a month. (I have to dig out the receipt but I’m pretty sure I have it.) I believe that as long as you do it before the year is up, that you can purchase the extended Apple Care plan for it to extend the warranty.
It will be reset and shipped with the latest software, the manual, the cord and the AC adapter/charger. All in the original box.
I will also throw in a Zaggmate bluetooth keyboard/case.
Lest you think I’m some sort of saint I should issue a disclaimer. We were gifted an iPad 2 by some very generous friends and so we wanted the older iPad to be a catalyst for something great. I hadn’t decided what that would be until I got Jody’s email.
Each $25 donation equals 1 entry into a hat (well technically it’s a random number generator) and one lucky person will be receive the iPad. (So $50=2 entries; $100=4 entries, etc.)
Keep it, sell it, use it in another giveaway. It’s entirely up to you!

My goal is to raise $5,000. That’s 200 people giving $25 each.
$5,000 trains and equips 31 new Community Health Promoters. Each of those takes care of 700 people.
That’s 21,700 people receiving low-cost, life-saving medicines and healthcare supplies.
