Super cute shirts

10.27.2011 by juliegumm@yahoo.com //

I’m always watching for super cute adoption shirts.

But I stumbled upon this families blog (because they linked here) and I love this shirt! Besides the super cool colors I love that it is not adoption specific and, in fact, not even country specific. There are a lot of people who have a heart for Africa in general so this shirt has really wide appeal. The shirt was designed by Factory 43 which is owned by their friend.

In the book I mention thinking “outside the box” when it comes to shirts and this family has definitely done that with several other cute shirts, like this one:

Good job Kautzis! Ordering one now….just have to decide ๐Ÿ™‚

Saying thank you to your supporters

10.26.2011 by juliegumm@yahoo.com //

During the Q & A in Birmingham last month someone brought up the idea of Thank Yous.

Of course saying thank you to those that support you during your adoption is super important.

Afterward one of the moms brought me a very cool postcard that they use for their thank yous.

For printing you can check out vistaprint.com or a company I use a lot, Next Day Flyers. Both companies have designs you can choose from and personalize.

They’re not horsin’ around

08.22.2011 by juliegumm@yahoo.com //

So we’ve talked about raffling off American Girl Dolls and a host of other things, but what about raffling off a horse?

YES, a horse!!

A couple months ago I got a Facebook message from a high school friend. He and his wife had begun to talk about adopting a boy from the Democratic Republic of Congo and, like a lot of wives, she plunged in by ordering a bunch of books. The first book he picked up was “Adopt Without Debt” and he said “Hmmm, I know a Julie Gumm” ๐Ÿ™‚ Small world, huh? Love how God works.

He connected me with his wife and we emailed a couple things back and forth. As she was reading the book she had a brilliant idea! They have a rope horse named Buck, that they’ve been ready to sell that is valued at a little over $12,000.

Their adoption costs are going to be about $30,000.

So instead of just selling the horse they are hoping to sell 600 raffle tickets for the horse at $50 each.

With one fundraiser they could have their costs totally covered.

I always say that the book is really just a catalyst. I want the fundraising ideas to stir your creativity and help you look at your situation, your friends and your community and come up with ideas that will work for you!

Check out the website the Broek family put together for the horse raffle. (And buy a ticket if you’re a “horse person”.)

Financial Freedom

Taking Advantage of The Housing Boom

The next huge step in our financial journey really came in 2004 when the housing market in Phoenix went absolutely crazy. The house that we bought for $199,900 over a year earlier was suddenly worth about $350,000. Crazy right? So of course Mark starts talking about selling and I start rolling my eyes at him. […]

I Met Dave!

We interrupt our normally scheduled post for this breaking news… I met Dave! Yesterday I got the opportunity to volunteer at the Dave Ramsey Live Event in Phoenix. It was this same event 10 years ago that changed our lives. Before the show Dave came around and greeted every one of the 60 or so […]
