Featured family matched with baby boy

06.09.2011 by juliegumm@yahoo.com //

My favorite part about writing the book was “meeting” a bunch of really great families that either have, or are in the process of adopting.

One of those families, the Buonicontis, was matched with a baby boy just days ago in the most unexpected way!

You can go here to read about the story.

This amazing family is opening their hearts to an HIV+ child with additional special needs due to medical neglect. He’s going to need lots of care, special medical attention and occupational and physical therapy and he’s GOING TO GET IT!

Congratulations Buonicontis!!!

Karaoke Night Fundraiser

05.19.2011 by juliegumm@yahoo.com //

One of my favorite fundraising ideas in the book is the karaoke night that the Besk Family held. The event was May 9th, so I wasn’t able to put the amount raised in the book. I couldn’t wait to hear how it went.

A grill/pub owner donated their place for the night and even covered the karaoke service. So the event didn’t cost the Besk’s anything.

Here’s how the game was played:

$30 – paid at the beginning of the night to completely “buy-out” of having to sing all night, but you can still pay to see others sing. They wore beads so people knew not to write their name down.

$10 – to make a buddy sing, you pick the song

$5 – buddy can add a friend, or change the song

$15 – buddy can get out of it completely, and make the original person sing, unless that person did a complete “buy-out”

Catherine said their “dream goal” was $1,250 – the amount they needed to have all of their referral fee. She expected more like $600.

Final total?

$1,311

Financial Freedom

Taking Advantage of The Housing Boom

The next huge step in our financial journey really came in 2004 when the housing market in Phoenix went absolutely crazy. The house that we bought for $199,900 over a year earlier was suddenly worth about $350,000. Crazy right? So of course Mark starts talking about selling and I start rolling my eyes at him. […]

I Met Dave!

We interrupt our normally scheduled post for this breaking news… I met Dave! Yesterday I got the opportunity to volunteer at the Dave Ramsey Live Event in Phoenix. It was this same event 10 years ago that changed our lives. Before the show Dave came around and greeted every one of the 60 or so […]
